The 2015 Tesla Model S 85D comes with something no other car on our lot can offer: free unlimited Supercharging that stays with the car for life. Tesla stopped including it years ago, and the cars that still carry it are the ones people go looking for. Plug in at any Tesla Supercharger in Ottawa, Kanata or anywhere along the 417 and the 401, and there is never a bill. No gas, and no charging costs on the road, for as long as you own it.

This one is Silver, kilometres are low for a 2015, and it is the 85D: dual motor all-wheel drive with the 85 kWh battery. It is not the P85D performance model, and for most people that is the better buy anyway. You still get the instant, silent acceleration and all-wheel-drive grip for an Ottawa winter, without paying extra for the P badge.

The Model S 85D puts a motor on each axle, so the traction is there before you ask for it. There is no engine to service, no oil changes and no transmission, and the regenerative braking does most of the slowing down, so brake pads last a long time. The 85 kWh battery makes it a real highway car, and with Supercharging free, a run to Montreal or Toronto costs you nothing in fuel.

The cabin is built around the 17-inch touchscreen, which runs navigation, climate and media. It is first-generation Tesla tech, so it is not as quick as the screen in a new Tesla, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The options are where this car stands out. Smart Air Suspension lets you raise the car for a steep driveway or a snowbank and lowers it at highway speed. The panoramic roof opens up over both rows, and the white Alcantara headliner makes the cabin feel a step above the usual. The Sub-Zero Weather Package adds a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and wiper blade de-icers on top of the heated front seats, which is exactly the package you want in Ottawa. It rides on the 21-inch wheels, and you also get leather seats, a backup camera, Bluetooth, keyless entry with the proximity key, a power liftgate, fold-flat rear seats and a front trunk under the hood.
