Fusion Energi SEL in Agate Black over ebony cloth. The Energi is the plug-in version of the Fusion, which is the part most people miss when they see one on a lot. This one was ordered with Equipment Group 800A for heated front seats, plus adaptive cruise control, the lane keeping system, blind spot detection and an engine block heater. The window sticker came to $38,540. Kilometres are about average for a 2019 and it is certified and safety inspected.

It is the 2.0L Atkinson-cycle four paired with an electric motor and a battery you plug in, driving the front wheels through an eCVT. Charge it overnight on a normal household outlet and a typical Ottawa commute runs mostly on electricity, with the gas engine there for the days you drive to Montreal instead. No range anxiety, no public charger hunting.

SEL brings a power driver seat with memory, power heated memory mirrors with signals, dual-zone electronic climate, SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SiriusXM, remote vehicle start, Intelligent Access with push-button start, a keyless entry keypad, LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a reverse camera and a perimeter alarm.

If you have been curious about going electric around Ottawa, Kanata, Stittsville or Nepean but you are not ready to give up a gas tank, a used plug-in hybrid is the cheapest way to find out whether it suits how you actually drive.
