The 2023 Ram ProMaster 2500 High Roof is the van you buy when you are done working bent over. This one is the 159-inch wheelbase in Bright White over black cloth, and it left the factory with the jobs most people pay an upfitter to do: Mopar side wall paneling upper and lower, a solid cargo partition, Mopar rear assist handles and the passenger bucket seat. The window sticker came to $56,890. Kilometres are on the higher side for a 2023, which is what happens when a van earns its keep, and it is certified like everything else on our lot.

The ProMaster 2500 runs the 3.6L Pentastar V6 through a 9-speed automatic, driving the front wheels. With no driveshaft under the floor the load height stays low, so you are stepping into the back rather than climbing up into it all day. Heavy-duty suspension, heavy-duty four-wheel disc brakes, Crosswind Assist for a gusty day on the 417, Hill Start Assist, an electric park brake and a brake-lock differential that helps it find grip on a slick Kanata job site. The high roof means you can stand up inside, and the upfit interface connector is already there if you are wiring in lights or an inverter.

The cab is better equipped than people expect from a work van. Uconnect 5 on the 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, hands-free phone, steering wheel audio controls, cruise control, air conditioning, push-button start, remote keyless entry and power windows with one-touch down. The safety list is long for a cargo van: full-speed forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist emergency braking, drowsy driver detection, traffic sign recognition and the ParkView backup camera. It also came with two extra key fobs, which matters more than it sounds when a crew shares the van.
